Manchester City celebrated Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game in management with a commanding 3–0 victory over Liverpool, cutting Arsenal’s Premier League lead to four points.

Erling Haaland recovered from an early missed penalty to score his 99th Premier League goal, before Nico González’s deflected effort and a stunning strike from Jeremy Doku sealed an emphatic win for the champions at the Etihad Stadium.

The result leaves Liverpool languishing in eighth place, having lost four of their last five league games, while City continue their surge as Arsenal’s main title challengers.

City Dominate From Start To Finish

Despite missing from the spot after a VAR-awarded penalty, Haaland made amends on 29 minutes, heading home Matheus Nunes’ cross to give City a deserved lead.

Liverpool thought they had equalised when Virgil van Dijk’s header found the net, but Andy Robertson was adjudged offside for interfering with play, and the goal was ruled out.

City punished that reprieve almost immediately, as González’s shot deflected off Van Dijk to wrong-foot Giorgi Mamardashvili, doubling the home side’s advantage before halftime.

Doku Shines As City Crush Liverpool

Belgian winger Jeremy Doku, who tormented Liverpool’s defence throughout, capped a sensational individual display with a curling strike into the top corner from outside the box — his finest goal yet in City colours.

Liverpool wasted chances to get back into the game, notably when Cody Gakpo blazed over from close range and Mohamed Salah missed a one-on-one late on.

Despite their urgent need for goals, manager Arne Slot left £125 million striker Alexander Isak on the bench, citing fitness concerns — a decision likely to raise eyebrows after another flat display.

Guardiola’s Milestone, City’s Momentum

The win marked a fitting celebration for Guardiola’s managerial milestone and reaffirmed City’s dominance in big games. The champions have now won 11 of their last 14 matches across all competitions.

Liverpool, meanwhile, continue to struggle for consistency after a summer overhaul reportedly worth £450 million, slipping further away from the title race and facing an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish.
