The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),
Federal Capital Territory Command, has rescued a 15-year-old girl from an
alleged trafficking and abuse situation in Abuja.
The development was confirmed by the command’s
spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, who stated that the victim—said to be from Ebonyi
State—was abducted, abused, and allegedly being prepared for trafficking
abroad.
According to the NSCDC, the case came to light after a
report of the girl’s sudden disappearance was filed at its Kwali Divisional
office. Acting swiftly, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit launched an
investigation, which led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Anyanwu
Daniel.
Authorities said the suspect allegedly held the victim
against her will for about two weeks and subjected her to repeated abuse.
Further findings indicated plans to traffic the minor to Libya for forced
labour before security operatives intervened.
FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, described the arrest
as a strong signal of the Corps’ commitment to protecting vulnerable
individuals, especially children, from exploitation.
He also warned that similar criminal networks still
exist and assured that ongoing intelligence operations are targeting those
involved.
Both the suspect and the victim have been handed over
to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)
for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The NSCDC urged the public to remain vigilant and
report suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is key to
tackling human trafficking and related crimes.
