Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) staged a strong
comeback to beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions
League quarterfinal on Wednesday.
After Villa took a surprising lead through Morgan
Rogers, PSG responded with two stunning goals—Désiré Doué’s long-range strike
and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s solo effort—before Nuno Mendes sealed the win in
stoppage time.
Despite a hostile reception for Aston Villa goalkeeper
Emiliano Martínez, who was jeered by the PSG crowd, Villa struggled
defensively, particularly on the right side where Kvaratskhelia dominated.
Villa now faces a two-goal deficit going into next week’s second leg at Villa
Park.
PSG showed composure throughout, with manager Luis
Enrique’s tactics outmaneuvering Villa’s Unai Emery.
The French side’s counter-pressing and creative
wingers proved too much for Villa to handle, leaving them with a mountain to
climb in the return fixture.
