In line with the recent posting and appointments
approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede,
the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian
Army (NA) and Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major
General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, has formally assumed duty as the 44th
GOC of the Division.
The colourful handing and taking over ceremony
took place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Headquarters, 1
Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, between the new GOC and his predecessor, Major
General Mayirenso Saraso.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting
Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division NA, Lieutenant Colonel
Shuaib Umar.
In his farewell remarks, the outgoing GOC, Maj. Gen.
Saraso, expressed gratitude to God and the COAS for the privilege of leading
the Division. He commended the officers and soldiers of 1 Division for their
loyalty and cooperation during his tenure, urging them to extend even greater
support to his successor for the overall benefit of the Nigerian Army and the
nation at large.
The ceremony featured the signing of handing and
taking over notes, decoration of the new GOC with the 1 Division
insignia, and the presentation of the Division’s command flag. The
highlight of the event was the hoisting of the new Division’s flag at the
quarter guard, symbolizing the dawn of a new era of leadership.
Group photographs and a farewell address to troops by
the outgoing GOC rounded off the event.
With his assumption of office, Maj. Gen. Wase is
expected to consolidate ongoing operations and further strengthen the
Division’s role in tackling emerging security challenges in its area of
responsibility.
